Complete Guide to Install Kali Linux on Virtual Machine

What is Kali Linux?
Kali Linux is preinstalled with numerous penetration-testing programs, including nmap, burpsuite, maltego, WiresharkJohn the Ripper, and Aircrack-ng. Kali Linux can be run from a hard disklive CD, or live USB. It is a supported platform of the Metasploit Project's Metasploit Framework, a tool for developing and executing security exploits.

What is Virtual Machine?
Virtual Machine lets you run multiple operating systems on a single physical machine, with each operating system sharing the resources of that one physical computer across multiple environments. Different virtual machines can run different operating systems and multiple applications on the same physical computer.

In this article, I will show you how to install Kali Linux in virtual machine on Windows and how to use it;

1. Downloading the Kali Linux Setup

For downloading the Kali Linux Setup go to the Kali Linux site and download the most updated version of it.

2. Downloading and Installing the Virtual Machine

There are many Virtual Machine applications out there on the internet, their usage, size and working all are different, so for choosing the convenient and effective virtual machine, i suggest to use VMware Player, which is most easy to use and understand, go to their site and download it and install it

3. Setting up Virtual Machine

Open up the VMware Player which you have downloaded and installed in Step No.2, and click Create a New Virtual Machine;

After clicking "Create a New Virtual Machine" a new box will appear in that which click Disk Image File and Browse the Kali Linux Setup file which you had downloaded in Step no.1, and click Next;

Now rename the machine, so you can easily remember and recognize it, and click Next;

After it select Store Virtual disk as a single file and click Next;

Now in the end click Finish and Kali Linux setup will get started;

4. Installing Kali Linux in Virtual Machine

As you clicked the Finish button in the Step no.3, the Kali Linux setup gets start select Graphical install using keyboard;

Now in the language select English and click Continue;

Select Country and click Continue;

Now select Keyboard key map style and click Continue;

After it, it will detect some of your hardware configuration and load files;

Now enter your Hostname and click Continue;

If you have a domain name, then enter here in the box. Make sure that you have a correct domain name. You can enter the domain name later and leave this box blank. Click on Continue;

Now enter the Password for root account and click Continue;

It will auto-detect time from network time server.

Select Guided - use entire disk and click Continue;

Click Continue;

Select it and click Continue;

Select and click Continue;

Select Yes and click Continue;

After it, it will make partition;

Now it will copy and install system files;

Now for installing network mirror Select Yes and click Continue;

Leave http proxy information blank that I will tell you its working in the next article. Click Continue;

After it install the GRUB boot loader, so click Yes and Continue;

Click on Continue to reboot Kali Linux installation;

After it a it will load and remove necessary files and will reboot;

After rebooting Kali Linux will get started, click on Other... and enter the username "root", and then click Log In;

Now enter Password which you have entered before, and then click Log In;

Finally, Kali Linux has been started;
